PartSuspended - Work In Progress
C.T.S
The large photographic projections will immerse the viewers in specific details of the city, reminding them of restrictions they face daily. Viewers will be invited to contribute their thoughts and feelings on restrictions in the city by writing responses on a large canvas, sheet or covered wall.
The installation encourages visitors to reconsider aspects of their life in the city by juxtaposition of unusual or unexpected photographic images, and by asking them to record their responses directly on the "walls" of the installation space.
The photographs suggest and expose 'cities' in several ways:
- Cleanliness: a desire for order and pristine conditions can lead to waste and 'disengaged spaces'
- Transportation: transport can enhance or destroy our enjoyment and understanding of the city
- Signs: how they direct or choreograph our movements through the city, leading to a routine in which desires and deviations are discouraged
C.T.S is an interactive installation which concerns thresholds in the city. The project emerged from work on Un-Re Strict-ed as a theme for visual and performance exploration by observing and feeling the restrictions around us. The presence of numerous signs and announcements instructing or coercing us to structure our everyday journey through the city in which we live led us to question what shapes our identity, what determines our decisions, and how interaction between people and city-space forms our behaviour and feelings.
